The perk of the race in have scheduled for May being time-based rather than a specific distance is that even though my training has absolutely ✨ 𝒾𝓂𝓅𝓁𝑜𝒹𝑒𝒹 ✨ over the last month, all I have to do is keep moving for 8 hours to finish.

My envy knows no bounds. Thanks to several external factors, I think I’m slogging along on about 3.5 hours of sleep today (and frankly, 6 hours has been a ‘good’ night over the last 1-2 years)

Y’all need to read this book. I don’t know if psycho-noir was a genre before, but it is now.

Alkaline Trio has no right to still be this good after 10 albums. There’s a lot of year left, but I can almost guarantee this will stay on my top 10 list for 2024.

I’m hoping that I can keep this motivation going, but so far in 2024, I have:
- Worked out more than half of the days
- Kept an unbroken streak in Duolingo
- Read 1 book per week

I took myself out for a lunch date today because it’s Chicago Restaurant Week and holy shit - The Gage was incredible. One of the best steaks I’ve ever had, and the shrimp toast was out of this world good. Their caramel “mocha”iatto tort was also divine.

Ah, yes! “Days at the Morisaki Bookshop” by Satoshi Yagasawa. A really pleasant read.

Starting to ramp things up, training-wise. An hour on the treadmill each session with a minimum of 1,000 feet of vert.
Gonna whip myself into shape for my May ultra!

I took 1.5 days off from clinic this week to lecture and help out with simulations and interprofesional education at a local PA program, and I’d forgotten how much teaching energizes me.
I *love* engaging with students and getting them to think critically.

First two books of 2024:
- The Great Passage by Shion Miura
- Days at the Morisaki Bookshop by Satoshi Yogisawa
Second two books of 2024:
- The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw
- The Trees Grew Because I Bled There by Eric LaRocca
…talk about changing gears.

It’s been a long time since I sat down to intentionally watch any media just for me - I’ve been subsisting on doomscrolling, TikTok, and having two young children - but I just watched Howl’s Moving Castle and OH. MY. GOD.
19 years late to the party, but that was so incredibly excellent.

Just in time for my running goals in 2024, my new treadmill was delivered today.
Any recommendations for audiobooks or other easily digestible content for long treadmill runs would be majorly appreciated.

The American insurance industry, and COBRA coverage in particular, is truly evil. One month of coverage for my family? $2,209.

Setting myself up for a challenging (but hopefully rewarding) 2024. I just signed up for an 8-hour timed race and a 50-miler. After a bit of a hiatus, maybe I’ll finally get myself on track for that elusive 100-miler in 2025?
