We got somethign pretty insane for Gamescom this year: a 2.5m wide, specially built controller for PVKK. It's essentially a real life replica of what you use on the game.
It's all physical, high quality, making the joy of pressing buttons very real. We'll be at @indiearenabooth.de :)

If you do a relic hunt run with the repellent, you should be able to permanently unlock new battle abilities if you win the run. Repellent has three battle abilities, two of which you unlock like that. This should trigger the achievement.

Players got used to a wave by wave dynamic to some degree, and deviating from that can feel bad as it counters what they learned so far.
Maybe one way is to quite evenly increase the strength of each wave, so players can get a good feel for it and predict more than getting surprised.

One frustration could come out of very uneven/tail-heavy waves, and the inability for the player to predict that. If you'd know the last wave is overproportionally stronger than usual, you might build generators from the start, but i don't think you can know that.

I'm late to this, but from the outside to me it seems like a huge change for a small issue. An issue that seems to come more from level design, where one solution could be to allow more setups to win the level. In my experience, it is easy to drift into puzzly mechanics, and it's usually less fun.
