Just a guy lurking on the net, working on a little enlightenment. Fortunate son, happy husband, proud father. Privileged white guy who graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and knows how f***ed up that was. Worked hard, paid my taxes, if only...

Listening to Coates and being true to our values is a good step.
I love your piece, its insights for us all and how it invites us to struggle with issues and not just dunk on Klein.
I have no basis to judge Klein's heart. Perhaps he is a lost bright-kid. Another author suggests America's past 50 years have been like a childhood for many.
If I were ever to have as large an influence as Ezra Klein and get so wrong in public, I would hope I had a friend with as much moral clarity as Ta-Nehisi Coates.
The linked piece here is great. And the Klein-Coates discussion is worth reading and thinking about.
"Common decency stigmatizes people that do not participate in itβremoves them from voluntary association. We indeed have to live with one another, but terms and conditions apply."
me on why Ezra Klein should be ashamed / why shame is Good Actually

I want to do a 𧡠about the Sidney Sweeney thing, because it's *extremely* revealing & educational.
First, to be clear: I could not give less of a shit about the details -- the ad, the rhetoric, the jeans, her boobs, whatever. Good lord, who cares.
Let's look at the *structure* of the episode.
No comment on New Yorker-specific concerns one way or the other.
The New Yorker is owned by CondΓ© Nast. They also own Wired. They are doing good work to hold this regime to account.
I think I saw mention that CondΓ© Nast might be bought by Skydance who are purchasing Paramount. That would be bad.
If youβve never seen one before, this is a strawberry finch.

But when they happen, they have always begun, symbolically and geographically, at the Capitol and moved outward. 1/

This week makes 8 years since I joined my local police department to help change the world by changing myself. Far from being jaded, I now see much more good in people. I see a great deal of death & violence. But I see far more beauty & potential.
I choose this way. Join me
Try making your own list. I made a βshort listβ with a subset of the people I follow. You can pin a list among your feeds. I look at it if I only want to check on latest from some. Can do on phone with no coding.

Stop saying: "All tariffs are bad because they raise prices-- that's what got us de-industrialization."
Start shouting: "Trump's unhinged on-again off-again tariffs on our staunch allies are unconstitutional, illegal, AND they raise prices & kill export jobs.
Here's how I see it. America is very far along in a process of regime change--a fundamental, revolutionary change to our entire system of government, from a liberal democracy allied to other democracies, to a patrimonial autocracy allied to other autocracies.

-Moves by Trump himself are 99% performative, destructive, bluffing, bigoted, bottomlessly stupid, usually fail even on their own terms.
-Meanwhile what Musk, Vought, FBI/DOJ/State et al are doing is genuinely ominous IMO.
Specifics for how we "fight them on the beaches, fight them in the air..."
NOW: Demand Musk out of govt, divest, or cancel contracts. Force every R to defend his role. SS & Medicare!!!
2026: Big audacious public goals-- register 30M new voters. Monthly D plebiscite. Public results 10M, 20M, ...
Biden should release the Jack Smith report for the sake of national security. What's going to happen to him? Nothing. He's the President and the Supreme Court has given him absolute immunity for actions done within his duties.
