I think of the journey all privileged white folks, particularly those with some past power, must make given the reality of our collective past and the work still to do.

I have no basis to judge Klein's heart. Perhaps he is a lost bright-kid. Another author suggests America's past 50 years have been like a childhood for many.

If I were ever to have as large an influence as Ezra Klein and get so wrong in public, I would hope I had a friend with as much moral clarity as Ta-Nehisi Coates.

I may regret this, but I read it was:

Stop saying: "All tariffs are bad because they raise prices-- that's what got us de-industrialization."

Start shouting: "Trump's unhinged on-again off-again tariffs on our staunch allies are unconstitutional, illegal, AND they raise prices & kill export jobs.

Here's how I see it. America is very far along in a process of regime change--a fundamental, revolutionary change to our entire system of government, from a liberal democracy allied to other democracies, to a patrimonial autocracy allied to other autocracies.

My wife likes to garden. I feel safer now.

I think both these things can be true:

-Moves by Trump himself are 99% performative, destructive, bluffing, bigoted, bottomlessly stupid, usually fail even on their own terms.

-Meanwhile what Musk, Vought, FBI/DOJ/State et al are doing is genuinely ominous IMO.
