Our National Director, Jonathan Jacoby, is deeply concerned by the divisive and hyperbolic response from some corners of the American Jewish community to the election of Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.

This is incredibly bigoted. I’m an interfaith relationship and happily raising three young children who are proud to be Jewish. Judaism is integral to my life.

While they didn't capitulate on diversity issues, I am baffled and disappointed as an alumni as to why they are paying anything at all.

Why the fuck did I contribute money to their $12 billion endowment if they are not going to use it to stand up to a fascist federal govt?

It is absolutely a thing. It was shouted at public high school students in SF as a threat. It can be used in an antisemetic way, and I think it is extremely divisive and ineffective as a slogan to advocate for Palestinean rights

I think Mamdani's response to the questions around it have been fine.

I'm hard-pressed to think of a non-Jewish Democratic politician who has spoken to Jews with more respect and empathy than Mamdani. The fact that many Jewish establishment orgs are going after him while staying relatively mum on resurgent Nazism is a disaster, both for American Jews and in general.

This makes me so sad as I belong to a reform temple and my kids are getting an education there. Do I stay and represent my views, or leave for other pastures.

I’m interfaith, and this is not easy :-(

His two positions that are consistently pointed at by some Jews who are panicked / claim he is antisemitic are:

1) He believes Israel should not be a Jewish state, and
2) He wants to defund orgs that support west bank settlers / violence

He co-founded a chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine when he was at Bowdoin, whose members and platform have arguably contained antisemitic rhetoric.

His positions today are much more informed and nuanced, and not antisemitic in my view.

But one thing that is rarely talked about with Lurie is that besides being a billionaire he is the son of a Rabbi. It informs how he goes about diplomacy - that is, he is non confrontational.

He also cares deeply about the city and its people.

Dunking on No Kings is one of the most cynical, empty and harmful things you can do right now. Building mass communal support against fascism that attracts normies is necessary to win.

I'm on a WhatsApp group of Gen X fathers from my synagogue (w/ some Millenials and Boomers sprinkled in) and I'm inches away from asking 'WTF is the synagogue doing to prepare for the potential occupation of San Francisco by the National Guard'? and 'Can we commit to not sharing any data with ICE?'
