Separated Bike Lanes Means Safer Streets, Study Says — Streetsblog USA
Cities that build protected lanes for cyclists end up with safer roads for people on bikes and people in cars and on foot, a new study of 12 large metropolises revealed Wednesday.
Another reminder that a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.
ALL ROAD USERS.
And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.
For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

The premise of the first season was a fine dining chef pulled back into the chaotic world of the family sandwich shop, and the premise of every subsequent season has been "The Bear is a very good and important tv show"

Protected bike lanes have a near-magical ability to produce cyclists.
This new study of 28 US cities finds that census block groups w/protected bike lanes expanded bike commuting almost 2x faster than those w/standard bike lanes & >4x faster than those w/o new lanes.

How SUVs Are Making Traffic Worse
As larger, taller sport utility vehicles took over US roads, they also aggravated highway congestion, according to a new study. It’s yet another ill effect of “car bloat.”
this is wild: vehicle capacity of freeway lanes dropped 10 percent as SUVs took over the road -- not just bc they are bigger. they also take more time and space to slow down and obscure other drivers' sightlines.

The Man Who Killed Google Search
This is the story of how Google Search died, and the people responsible for killing it.
The story begins on February 5th 2019, when Ben Gomes, Google’s head of search, had a problem. Jerry Dischler, ...
Today's newsletter is the story of how Prabhakar Raghavan, Google's former head of ads - led a coup so that he could run Google Search, and how an email chain from 2019 began a cascade of events that would lead to him running it into the ground.

I estimate how many pedestrians would be saved if front-end vehicle heights were capped at 125 cm (about the height of a new Honda CRV). I estimate 500 fewer pedestrians would die each year if taller front-ends could be lowered to 125 cm.
