I was at Warkworth last week with my family. My 10yo daughter thoroughly enjoyed following the new trails (she did three of them), as did I!

PS: would you count Daphne du Maurier's House on the Strand as historical fiction? (Not sure, but it's great, anyway!)

Edith Pargeter, The Heaven Tree, but I also thought quickly of Andrew Greig's That Summer, as well as his Fair Helen. Your own For Thy Great Pain is now very high on my list of favourites!

If you haven't read this book - and if you're not especially interested in medieval Wales, that's not surprising - you really, really should.
The first chapter alone is extraordinary. The writing about as good as academic writing gets, and stylish with it.
All written in a second language. 🗃️
