Itโ€™s probably rotted away the ICs as there is no membrane to rot away. Classic Spectrum.

The way I see it is that it's cheaper than the real thing and possibly easier to store, and hopefully at least half as good.

Cleaning and testing Famicom cartridges is a nice relaxing change when the day has been long and somewhat annoying.

Apprently yesterday whilst I was ill in bed I ordered another dozen Famicom(s/es) from Japan.

Thatโ€™s it, no more machines this year.

Unless they are ones I really, really want. Or are cheap. Or interesting.

Cool old Pc games

Cleaning out the garage I found a box of old PC games including the first PC I game I ever bought, the budget re-release of Golden Axe.

Trying to work out some complicated programming things whilst listening to @sagefrancis.bsky.social makes for a very relaxing lunchtime.

WonderSwan Color Tetris is amazing. It could be better than the Gameboy version even.

One of my children was awake all night very upset. So in turn I was up most of the night too. I feel today will require at least 2 breakfasts before work.

Basically Mr Do! Is a hero and he should be in more games.

I do seriously think that the reason I enjoy computers and programming so much is that we had a Mr Do! arcade machine in the kitchen when I was about 3 or 4. This was followed by a BBC Model B when I was 5 which had the excellent Mr Ee! And of course BBC Basic, and magazines with type in programs

Johnny makes videos on a lot of interesting machines you donโ€™t see in many (or any) other videos. Definitely worth a watch along with his many other videos imo.

Joe did great work on those screens. They look factory fitted.

I also had to edit some graphics for one of the games and ended up using Deluxe Paint loaded from floppy disk on an Amiga 500 with a 30 year old mouse. It was quicker and easier than using any of more modern tools, and more fun too.

My 3 year old now loves playing Bubsy so all the blood, sweat and tears were worth it just to hear the wise words he shouts whilst playing it.

Thanks to @pc98audi.bsky.social I spent my lunchtime with the theme song to Postman Pat stuck in my head.

Thanks for the info! I will see if I can safely replace that capacitor and see if it does anything. I did think the weird furry thing was dead as Iโ€™d never seen anything like that before.

I think I can make a pico psu work for this fairly safely. I watched the excellent @markfixesstuff.com video on putting a mean well in the Einstein psu case but it looks like there is too much scope for me to make a fatal mistake to try it

A nice bit of paperwork processing on a Sunday whilst some of the children shout very loudly about Minecraft and ballbags

Iโ€™m no PSU expert but at least two of these components look like they may have ceased to be. Probably wise for me to find something newer to replace this

Thatโ€™s good to know. I have one ready to be installed as a replacement for whichever drive seems less reliable, once Iโ€™ve sourced a disk to test which one that is. When Iโ€™ve finished removing all the weird goop off the case the next bit will be working out a replacement psu, or service the existing

A very dirty microcomputer

A very dirty microcomputer

I was inspired by @breakintoprogram.co.uk and his Tatung Einstein cross compiler demo at RetroFest a few months ago and bought one from eBay. Now I must figure out how to clean it up and fix all the probably broken bits before I even do the interfacing side. The kitchen hob makes a good workbench.
