It always sounds like someone trying to turn a handful of good deeds into an intractable part of their identity.

My impression is that papers like these have spent years digging their graves with horseshit like this but sure I must be very naive

Do these kinds of columns even have influence anymore? I’ve never heard anyone outside of a newspaper column talk about “ultra-processed foods.” Like does anyone believe this stuff?

Like the Fox narrative is deterioration. Our traditions are being destroyed by villains, weak men are letting it happen, and brave conservatives are holding the line. It might be that liberal audiences are too smart to buy such a story, but could be that liberal journos couldn't agree on one to tell

What makes Fox work is that every little story is part of the one big story they've been telling for decades, and liberal outlets are not centralized or cynical enough to agree on one big story.

I think the common explanation for this, that you would need to address, is that there is no Rupert Murdoch of the left trying to push a big political narrative. Fox works as a business because it is more about pushing one narrative over others, less about any belief in what news is supposed to be.

It is largely that Fox is telling a more straightforward story because they are promoting a singular political narrative, and they are willing to pander to their viewers in a way that more "objective" news outlets are not.

Don't think this is totally right. Fox News is meant as a conservative outlet to promote Murdoch's beliefs and they are also more willing that liberal outlets to gin up news stories based on ratings, similar to social media engagement farming. It's not that conservatives are different as viewers 1)
