Last week, part of our team took part in a 3-day sea safety training course. The course covered fire safety, water survival, and first aid—all essential skills for our future fieldwork at sea!

It was a great experience, and we’re now better prepared for whatever the ocean throws our way 🌊

Trump seeks to end climate research at premier U.S. climate agency White House aims to end NOAA’s research office; NASA also targeted

BREAKING from @science.org: The Trump admin is seeking to kill nearly all climate research at NOAA, its climate science agency.

Its near-final budget proposal would end all NOAA research labs, academic institutes, and regional climate centers. And it wants to fully end the NOAA Research division.

Henning ist ein erfahrener Krabbenfischer, welcher sich besonders in den Bereichen Energieeffizienz und Selektivität für eine nachhaltige Fischerei engagiert.

Wir testen ein neues Netz-Design, um den Beifang in der Krabbenfischerei in der Nordsee zu reduzieren. An Bord der "SOLEA" testen wir ein mit "Benthos Release Panels" ausgestattetes Krabbennetz, das vor allem den Beifang von benthischen Arten wie z.B. Seesternen und Muscheln verhindern soll.

Durch die modulare Bauweise können wir schnell und ohne großen Aufwand das Netz während der Reise weiter anpassen und Daten sammeln.

Wir sind auf See – die 846. Reise auf der FFS Solea ist gestartet. Wir testen gerade ein neues modulares Krabbennetz, bei dem das Netzmaterial, die Maschengröße und die Größe des Gesamtnetzes an die aktuellen Bedürfnisse und Wünsche der Krabbenfischerei angepasst wurden.

We are out at sea - the 846th cruise on the RV Solea is now underway.

We are currently testing a new modular shrimp net in which the net material, the mesh size and the size of the overall net have been adapted to the current needs and wishes of the shrimp fishery.

We started a new project on passive shrimp fishing, called TRAPS! 🦐 We just got back from the Netherlands, meeting with @wurmarine.bsky.social and ILVO to share ideas & plan future collaborations. On our way, we even visited a fisher to learn about stownets! 🎣
