Meanwhile, Sobeys and Aquaterra are pulling hundreds of millions of litres of water from wells in Colchester County which they sell as bottled water. For that water, the companies pay the province a total of $769 annually. That's not a typo. It's $769. (Exactly, $768.85.)

The Nova Scotia government is handing out $700,000 in vouchers for people with failed wells caused by the drought, so they can buy bottled water.

They Came for Our Neighbors. We Showed Up. Before long, there were dozens, and then hundreds of people in the streets, watching and responding.

My latest is the story of how my community has rallied to protect and defend our neighbors in recent days, as ICE has targeted the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago. "This is not a story about a moment of victory, but a moment of being reminded of our power."

SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.

I spoke to a Venezuelan woman who was arrested in this raid and later released with her 4yo son. She said agents broke down their door, pointed guns at them and made sexualized remarks about Venezuelan women. When she returned to her apartment it was boarded up and all her possessions were gone.

Google Calls ICE Agents a Vulnerable Group, Removes ICE-Spotting App ‘Red Dot’ The move comes as Apple removed ICEBlock after direct pressure from U.S. Department of Justice officials and signals a broader crackdown on ICE-spotting apps.

New: Google removed an ICE-spotting app after calling ICE agents a vulnerable group. A immigration support group on the ground in Chicago, the current focus of ICE, said they were using the app to source tips, called Red Dot. Apple removed that app too

I know it's hard to do but you have to tune out the constant & I mean constant torrent of criticisms on social media re: activism & organizing. If you don't, it can stop you from trying to do any activism or organizing. Most of the critics aren't doing any organizing themselves so keep trying things

#Halifax council isn’t perfect—who is?!—but there are solid voices speaking out, including Janet Steele. Removing the bridge tolls, making parking free at hospitals, not promoting working from home all add to congestion. That’s Premier Tim Houston’s doing, not bike lanes.

HaliSky, I know we’re all tired of the distraction of fighting about bike lanes that this summer has become.

But the motion about Morris St at council tomorrow really is about a threat to democracy.

If you can muster the energy to send an email to council, the premier & your MLA, please do so!

Why are we reluctant to recognize Israel’s genocide in Gaza? | Kenneth Roth

"One would have hoped that a history of genocidal victimhood would yield an appreciation for human rights standards that prohibit oppression, but some leaders seem to have drawn the opposite lesson," writes the former executive director of Human Rights Watch Kenneth Roth.

The universe is an unjust and cold place, but it does have incredible comedic timing some days.

(This is the street the province declared all of four days ago must remain open to two-way traffic, or else the provincial economy will spiral to nothing).

Government of Canada invests in transportation infrastructure at the Port of Halifax and Windsor Street Exchange upgrades - Canada.ca The quality of Canada’s transportation infrastructure and the efficiency of the country’s trade corridors are key to the success of Canadian companies in the global marketplace.

If the premier was truly concerned with the port as an economic driver, we wouldn't be sending trucks willy-nilly through the downtown. Morris St. has nothing to do with the viability of the port. That's what the Windsor St Exchange update is supposed to help solve.
