A fantastic piece of reporting, brilliantly illustrated data, thorough, neutral analysis, transparent data collection… and frightening conclusions. Well done @skynewsrss.bsky.social for putting in long miles on this one

Vital piece of investigative reporting from Sky. They've uncovered the X algorithm which feeds users extremist right wing material from the moment they join the site. It is a far-right radicalisation engine, by design.

Immigration, indecency, and incompetence. New post on my Brexit & Brexitism Blog. The ever-more indecent terms of the immigration 'debate' are another failure of Brexit, which links to the ever-more obvious incompetence of Reform in local government: chrisgreybrexitblog.blogspot.com/2025/10/immi...

Trump’s orders unnerved many in the industry and appear to have discouraged some large firms from taking on cases they would otherwise have backed, lawyers say. That has dried up a formerly reliable supply of help from large law offices for people and institutions challenging government policies.

The American Bar Association, which joined or filed four lawsuits against the Trump administration, “has experienced difficulty finding previously willing law firms to represent it,” its attorneys wrote in court papers. In one case, the organization said, it was unable to join a lawsuit challenging the administration because it could not get attorneys in time.

We have reached the point where the *American Bar Association* cannot find attorneys willing to represent them in litigation against the Trump administration.

I'm not pro-Hamas. I'm not 'antifa' (other than thinking fascism is in fact, bad). I dont hate America. I've spent my career supporting the U.S. military.

But I'll be out on the 18th, because I support our Constitution, our freedoms, and the rule of law 🇺🇸

US universities must reject Trump’s ‘compact’. It is full of traps | Jan-Werner Müller The administration is trying to make nine universities an offer they seemingly cannot refuse

"...Trumpists...seek to entrap universities in a deal that ...gives the administration arbitrary power over them. The carrots serve to lure institutions of higher learning into a dark alley where, rather than just waiting with a big stick, the government can put a gun to their heads at any time."

With the exception of the RN, no party wants new elections, and all are positioning themselves in view of the next presidential elections. An increasing number of actors push for Macron's resignation so to have a new presidential election in 2026 (or even earlier), but Macron is unlikely to go.

We may soon have the first technocratic (ie not based on an explicit coalition of parties in parliament) of theFrench Fifth Republic. ⬇️

France led by the RN would tilt the balance in Europe, but Meloni should be careful what she wishes for; not sure she and MLP want the same thing. As for the union of the rights, there’s no sign of that for now.

Probably but not sure it will be enough to keep in the whole range of parties from the PS to the LR. At this stage the problem is not concessions or negotiations, it is positioning vis-à-vis the next presidential election.

I wroite a short piece on @verfassungsblog.de on the challenges facing the French new Prime Minister. The institutions of the Fifth Republic have so far been very resilient in the face of continued crisis, but fatigue is starting to show.

Unclear how Lecornu can do better than his predecessors in assembling a parliamentary coalition. Pressures for new elections or even for Macron's resignation are likely to mount in the coming months. More here ⬇️

The Socialist Party's leaders had pressed strongly for a Socialist PM. They now warn that Macron is "defying social anger", which does not bode well for the new government. The leader of the Greens, Marine Tondelier, talks openly about a "provocation" on the part of Macron. /3

Lecornu was Macron's preferred PM already nine months ago, when Bayrou, threatening Macron to withdraw his support, forced his hand to become PM himself. French politics really set back the clock to last year, only with more fatigue due to an additional year of instability. /2

Bayrou did not even receive all the votes of the parties that explicitly supported his government. A difficult puzzle to solve for Macron, like in 2024.

The French National Assembly just voted on the confidence to the Bayrou government. 364 votes against, 194 vote in favor. So Bayrou falls after only 9 months. The Parliament will have to approve a budget before Dec 31. I discuss the possible scenarios in this piece for @verfassungsblog.de
