Kids know that cars are supposed to look better than their drawings of cars.

I’ll bet there is a high percentage of adoptees who become child advocates in one way or another.

You also have people from Prager U infiltrating parent groups on Facebook doing this same thing. They weaponized them against their school districts and then tried to sell them their homeschooling program. I watched them destroy an entire community.

I really hate the reassurance adoptees have to give their adoptive parents. It’s a burden that shouldn’t be placed on the ones who had no say in the process. πŸ₯š

Pendant earring and just a few curls peaking out of the checkered headwrap. Detail from one of the many images of the #eighteenthcentury #caribbean made by Agostino Brunias and circulated by many others.

I don’t think a long book is even primarily about plot, or character, or any of the patterned information on its pages. A long book is practicing over time a way of being in the world. Reading even a very good summary is not the same as giving over some portion of your own life to that practice.

It really is fun to watch them try to get it together. It also gives us the time to determine whether or not to serve them.

Absolutely. I used to point out that what stood between them and their beloved was 24” of bar and me.

They won’t. White people use thug as a dog whistle for a young black man they want to kill. Being called a thug will stick in their craw.

A photograph from the 1988 ACT UP demonstration outside the FDA. Many people are participating in a die-in on the front steps, holding mock tombstones with messages like "RIP - killed by the FDA" and "Dead from lack of drugs." A line of police officers (some with classic 80s mustaches) wearing riot helmets stands between them and the building; one cop wearing white gloves is walking through the demonstrators. Affixed to the 2nd story windows of the building is a series of posters and a large blank banner reading Silence = Death.

This week in 1988: 1,000+ ACT UP demonstrators shut down the FDA headquarters, demanding (and eventually winning) action on developing HIV/AIDS treatments. ACT UP's militant and creative actions always included powerful visual artwork, and paved the way for movements in the decades to come.

Nadia from London has an idea that sounds such fun you'll be booking a day out asap.
"I've always loved museums," she says,
"but they can be overwhelming for children. For decades now, I've done something called 'playing postcards'
We do
the museum backwards, visiting the gift shop first. Each child gets to choose three postcards. Then they take it in turns to find that particular artwork in the museum and give us a little information about the piece from the details on the postcard, or from any gallery plaque. At the end of this treasure-hunt-style activity, we vote for our favourite in the cafe."

This is such a clever idea on taking kids to museums/galleries
