Two pedestrians cross a wooden bridge spanning Tokyo's Edo River, on a snowy winter's evening. A tall leafless tree stands on the near side of the river, its trunk and bare branches plastered with snow. Just beyond, two female figures in traditional coats, hairstyles and geta carry umbrellas over their heads as they cross the bridge. Below, the river looks calm and cold; beyond, houses stand close together along the riverbank. Fresh snow lies across the scene. The sky above is overcast, and snow continues to fall.

First Nations ask federal court to weigh in on MOU carbon capture project | CBC News
Several First Nations are asking a federal court to weigh in on whether a deal struck on a carbon capture project was unconstitutional and violated Canada’s duty to consult.
Multiple First Nations are challenging Mark Carney's MOU with Danielle Smith in federal court.
"... for Canada and Alberta to now sign a deal to support this project behind our backs — it’s dishonourable and it’s disrespectful"

Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux joins Liberal caucus: Carney | CBC News
Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux has joined the Liberal cacucus, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on social media Wedneday.
I know liberals see this as "Yay! Building up that majority! Bleeding Poilievre dry!"
But for the rest of us, this is a huge red flag.
These people ran on a platform of hate, xenophobia and fear mongering. What does it say that they feel seen by the Liberals right now? Yikes.

This is the type of article I would classify as "dull". HOWEVER I wrote it because I'm infuriated by the cost of groceries, and I am really wondering what the federal government is planning to do. Money in my pocket is always welcome, but IMO this proposal won't solve the problem. What do you think?

A view looking over the calm surface of Lake Yamanaka toward a snow-capped Mount Fuji, on a bright winter afternoon. In the foreground, a pair of wiry, leafless trees are rimed with frost and snow; beyond, a solitary pilot steers a small open boat across the still surface of the lake. Further on, Mount Fuji dominates the landscape. Above, a few faint clouds cross a crisp blue sky; closer to the horizon, the sky is tinted with the pale coral colour of an approaching sunset

The author speaks about navigating Canada's hostile immigration policies and anti-migrant public sentiment.
“Canada is not a benevolent nation-state,” @harshawalia.bsky.social says. It is an imperial power. Canadian mining interests, arms transfers, and foreign policy – including in places like Palestine – have historically and continue to produce displacement and deprivation elsewhere in the world.” 🔥🔥🔥

China’s carbon curve may be bending at last
It’s worth pausing on the point that the world’s largest source of climate pollution is no longer growing relentlessly.
China's carbon emissions are beginning to drop. So much for the climate trolls who rely on whataboutery about China to deflect responsibility and the need for others to act.

A snowy evening at Tokyo's Honmon-ji Temple. Pedestrians carrying bamboo umbrellas over their heads walk up a track cleared in the snow by earlier foot traffic. On the left, a tall Japanese pine tree, its branches heavy with snow, stands near a wall running parallel to the path; up ahead, a temple gate opens on a series of wide stone steps, leading up toward the temple grounds. Beyond, tall trees are reduced to silhouettes in the winter gloom. Snow continues to fall across the scene.

Yes they did this, but that’s minor. They stalled the decarbonisation of our ecomony generally, which causes massive destruction.

Snow falls on industrial buildings on the banks of Tokyo's Kanda River, on a dim winter evening. A layer of fresh snow lies across the rooftops of buildings crowded near the water's edge; in the center of the image, the wheel of a watermill is still, its blades gathering snow. A single light shines in one window at the mill, but the scene is quiet and deserted
