I think the initial contact was only a few months for psychiatry UK and the whole process has been going for 2 years whereas with my former PCT the initial contact was after nearly three!

I think it depends on how good local services are that makes it worth it or not.

I guess my overall experience has been fine?

Had I not already put in for right to choose (RTC) w/ Psychiatry UK, I woulda been screwed.

Not sure why I didn't drop off their list when I moved to RTC but oh well.

Oh! Also you'll wanna find out if your GP does shared care or if Psychiatry UK will have to handle titration onto meds.

Also if you move out of the area Psychiatry UK will still see you whereas a PCT won't.

I moved and the PCT called to offer me an appointment as I'd reached the top of their list finally but as I'd moved they wouldn't see...

This feeds into a discussion w/ a psychiatrist who then consults on whether this meets the criteria for diagnosis.

Then titration (if you choose to go for meds). They will want some tests done such as an ecg, echo, and bp to check heart can handle stimulants.

From initial letter to awaiting titration (should start next month) has so far been ~2 years. That will be longer now.
