I was recently informed that many of my male colleagues live in fear of my "piercing yet blank" stare that immediately lets them know they've said something unforgivably stupid. I have to use that look a lot.

At my local Providence hospital, you don't get a mammogram at imaging and diagnostics, because (obviously) it's at the other end of the complex, at the "Safeway Breast Center". I feel kind of gross about that.

Half my job is explaining to people how their published paper or report is incorrect because they didn't understand the underlying data.

As a data scientist, this is terrifying. If you do not know enough about the data to get it yourself, you should not be using it. You don't know how it was collected, you don't know if the data are biased/racist/misogynistic, you don't know the caveats, you're a disaster waiting to happen.

I really thought this was some hot academic scandal and was amazed that an affair between a couple of astronomers was getting so much mainstream coverage.

On reflection it's good I figured that out since I started my semi-professional child acting career shortly after that

The commercial release cut all the parts about using Dickshark to seize the means of production. It's barely even a political movie.

You absolutely must watch the 3.5 hour director's cut of Dickshark, it's a totally different experience.

And then we're all surprised- shocked, even! - that we can't win elections.

But apparently they only come out to scold voters, tell them they're absurd for wanting housing, and to line up to support the guy who likes to do sexual assault and let's not talk about the genocide.

And then, when the [young] voters tell you pretty explicitly what they want- which is mainly "not the guy who likes to do sexual assault and also we like housing and maybe we can cut back on genocide"- the entire establishment comes out.

I understand that view (I care a bit more about it because I used to live there) but... it's a fascinating microcosm of the Democratic Party. Extensive hand-wringing about how to know what the [young] voters want. Lots and lots of chasing trends rather than leading.
