In a UN speech today, President Trump said that "all of these [climate] predictions were wrong".

Back in 2019 I led a research effort to digitize old climate model projections and assess how well they did. Turns out they got future warming pretty spot on!

🌫 It was a foggy morning in the capital today.

🛰️From the satellite images, we can see low cloud and fog in the east of the South Island, stretching from Christchurch to lower parts of the North Island.

📸On the attached photos is a view of fog and low cloud from the ground taken by some of our forecasters in Johnsonville

Today we have a beautiful example of a Kármán Vortex street to the west of the North Island.

This cloud pattern is generated downstream of Taranaki Maunga when wind, cloud and stability conditions are just right.

A 'block' is developing southeast of New Zealand. A typical winter block (hopefully) bringing some nice weather to Wellington.

Though, southern hemisphere blocks are often 'less persistent' due to strong jet state!

Taranaki Maunga is acting like a giant shield this morning—blocking low-level cloud rolling in from the south.
That means the northern side is soaking up the sunshine while the south stays cloudy. ☀️⛅🗻
