On my way to #FediCon in Vancouver! Excited to see friends both old and new in person. If you'll be there, let me know -- I'd love to make sure we meet up.

I love reading serious stories about guys who believe AGI is real, it feels like a bunch of millionaires plotting to find and capture Santa Claus

Write.as Pro Write.as Pro gives individual writers all they need to write, publish, and reach an audience.

After that, you can always get a free account by asking an existing user for an invite.

Otherwise, you can support our independent publishing platform by subscribing to Pro! (write.as/pro)

And you can always join one of many independent #WriteFreely communities (writefreely.org/instances).

Twitter is never coming back. It was a moment of time.

Microblogging is a bad modality in a world flooded with malicious velocity, algorithmic distortion & frankly patterns we rewarded w attention in the peak twitter era.

We need to invent new forms, probably lots of them.

Hi again πŸ‘‹ I'm back, getting caught up and back to work on @write.as & #WriteFreely. More updates soon!

the future is just us sitting by while a bunch of bros with no taste whatsoever post AI-generated bullshit and chant, "it's getting so good, so fast"

our networks are tightly coupled with our media formats, so something that should be a blog post instead comes out as this unwanted mutant child of maybe-photo, maybe-video, maybe-text β€” ground up and processed into this unappetizing content soup for us to begrudgingly slurp

an Instagram reel that's basically a still image just telling you to read a caption is the most cursed social media format

Oh yep I did respond β€” but just sent it again in case the first didn't go through. Might want to check spam folder too, in case it ended up there

Honestly bring back timed programming and put it in streaming services. Curate channels and let me pick one. Sometimes I just wanna watch *something* without thinking too hard about it.

For one, being able to leverage moderation already in bsky would be absolutely huge.

Having to build all that functionality from scratch is the single thing keeping us from already having ActivityPub-enabled comments on blogs.

Seeing this, most useful and quickest way to getting ATproto into @write.as could be comments.

Beyond that, we could always send the full post contents, maybe both short and long formats alongside each other, etc. (I think that's the ideal for a platform like ours in these kinds of networks)

23.11.2024 18:35 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

From the fediverse, I've seen it's hard to cram long-form content into short-form platforms without good client support (and that's beyond my scope).

So short-term, I think would use the bsky schema and just send a post intro with the link.

23.11.2024 18:35 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

This is all really great information β€” thanks so much for sharing! I'll start digging into it all.

I've been thinking of which way to go, but I think baking a PDS into W.a is the goal.

23.11.2024 18:35 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

So implementing this on @write.as is trivial. But all it really does is verify that you own your Write.as blog.

That's great, but especially with our ActivityPub integration, I think people will expect it to do more, like send out your posts from that handle.

I've always hated texting, since I was 14 laying in bed using T9 on my Nokia brick. These platforms are just texting but for the whole world to read and index forever

They say this a lot in the southern US too. Always grates on me lol, but think it's just partially regional

I'm just having trouble finding these components in bsky's repos. Luckily our backend is in Go too, so hopefully it's relatively straightforward

18.11.2024 19:35 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I'd like to experiment with adding ATproto support alongside ActivityPub in @write.as, but where do I start? Assuming all blog posts would be hosted in our PDS, and we'd provide identity so people can have e.g. @myblog.write.as

I'll keep adding to it, so let me know if I've missed anyone.

A WriteFreely Github issie: "Hello everyone,

I’m considering using WriteFreely to power the blog for my jewelry store,Β Australian Opal Direct (linking to their site), and would love some advice. My main goal is to create engaging content that highlights the beauty and history of opal jewelry while also boosting SEO.

A few questions:

Does WriteFreely support SEO optimizations (like meta tags or sitemaps)?
Are there any themes or plugins that work well for product-focused blogs?
Is it easy to integrate product links within blog posts to drive traffic to specific pages?
Can I easily track content performance using analytics tools?
Thanks in advance for any guidance or tips from the community!"
