It's also funny because traditional Western Civ courses absolutely claim Mesopotamia and the rest of the ancient Near East as progenitors.

Their definition is a useful reminder that most definitions of Western Civ have always been something of a grab-bag of whatever happened to interest the person doing the defining. It's also bizarre for them to ignore Christianity completely in how they define it.
