I’m just a small-town political scientist, & it’s still relatively early, but it appears that The Actual Democrats did not Need To Do any of the Things or Learn any of the Obvious Lessons that Ezra Douthglesias said they Must Do & Learn.

Did Schumer endorse Mamdani yet?

Mamdani: "New York will remain a city of immigrants, a city built by immigrants, powered by immigrants, and as of tonight, led by an immigrant."

SAY. THAT. SHIT!

I support everyone giving vast sums of money to Andrew Cuomo. It’s the β€œlighting a million quid on fire” art piece but this time performed by the worst people in the world.

More Democrats should get more combative with the media, in particular by calling out questions that have an unspoken premise of "GOP voters are realer Americans than you," or in this case, "the president can break the law if voters in a city choose a mayor according to their own preferences."

what Democrats need to understand is that these are not judicial confirmations in the traditional senseβ€”the only people Trump is sending to the bench are people who will further his corruption and backstop his anticonstitutionalism; voting to advance any Trump appointee is fucking madness

Mr. Sims said he welcomed the raid because he hated how Hyundai and its suppliers were changing the rural character of his hometown. He would never work in one of their factories, he declared, and neither would his relatives, even though the paper mill where some of them worked had recently shut down.

I dunno, I think it would be helpful if journalists translated what β€œrural” means in this context. Somehow I don’t think Korean people automatically make something less rural simply by existing somewhere.

Unless rural means something else.

If I had explain American history in one sentence, I could do worse than "John Brown was hung for treason, but Robert E. Lee was not."

If I’m running messaging, the word on the street is that Democrats are refusing to fund a dictatorship. Either Article 1 means something or nobody gets anything.

What also baffles me is that Democratic Party is ~30 points underwater in favorability & Zohran Mamdani is ~16 points above water in favorability.

The Dem Party establishment, who is responsible for the abysmal rating, is too arrogant to support the guy ~50 points ahead of them. Incredible.

NYC Mayoral Primary was 95 days ago & the general is in 37 days. And Schumer & Jeffriesβ€”the two Democratic leaders who should be leading by exampleβ€”have still REFUSED to endorse the democratic nominee.

I don’t wanna hear them or any of their supporters utter β€œvote blue no matter who,” ever again.

Opinion | I'm a Republican Senator. If I don't let Donald Trump use the Department of Justice to frivolously prosecute his personal enemies, I'll be primaried by someone who will let Donald Trump use the Department of Justice to frivolously prosecute his personal enemies.

Serious question: are the centrist free speech bros really dumb enough to be surprised by what is happening now or are they just pretending?

Calling things a β€œdistraction”: deescalatory.

Trying to change the subject to dry kitchen-table issues: deescalatory.

Characterizing Trump as silly or misguided instead of corrupt or dangerous: deescalatory.

Trying to find common ground with an authoritarian: deescalatory.

Literally the only moment of effective resistance from Dems in this entire administration was Chris Van Hollen finding a way to transform one man’s abduction into a national crisis story, and Democrats learned absolutely nothing from it and never tried it again.

Wherever there's an inspiring younger candidate for office, rest assured that the leadership of the congressional Democrats will do whatever they can to snuff it the fuck out.

Jeffries already has Mamdani covered, so Schumer is going to take down Platner.

While progressives often get accused of undermining the Democratic Party, the evidence shows that it’s the moderate wing that most often violates the β€œVote Blue No Matter Who” principle.

This is one of the best articulations I have seen for why Dem voters should NOT vote for Newsom or any other Dem who refuses to stand up for trans rights (and, for that matter, for any Dem who refuses to stand up on other human rights issues of our times, including Gaza)

Monarez is playing her weak hand perfectly, and should be a model for institutional resistance for the next four years:
1. Make them fire you
2. Don’t go along to get along
3. Don’t apologize, have confidence in your own integrity and the importance of your role
4. Always escalate the conflict
