20.10.2025 20:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Coming from BC, this law shocked me when I got here! I love it, I honestly feel way safer as a pedestrian. I still have my head on a swivel whenever I cross any road but I don't have to play the guessing game of "does this person see me? Did they forget to put their blinker on? Will I die today?"

I understand that you're trying to just make a catchy post, but ragging on people who didn't vote as inherently not deserving of representation ignores too much for me to scroll past. I encourage you to look further into this and listen to the voices of those who cannot or choose not to vote
03.05.2025 04:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Hell sometimes even I feel conflicted to participate in a system that I think is broken and needs serious work, and my ancestors were the ones doing the colonising so on paper the system is built for me and I benefit much more from it just by virtue of being white.
03.05.2025 04:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Indigenous people are not a monolith and, again, I don't speak for them, but I think it's really fucking easy to empathize with them. Many indigenous people do still vote, especially when they feel they will be heard. I respect their reasons to participate or not.
03.05.2025 04:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Indigenous people don't feel heard in Canadian government because things that are important to those communities don't get done. They have been abused, colonized, and discarded, would you want to participate in that system?
03.05.2025 04:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 02. A lot of these "did not vote" areas tend to have a larger population ratio of indigenous folks, and this is important. I'm not indigenous so I won't speak for them, but my understanding is that most are very conflicted in participating in a system that basically ruined their lives.
03.05.2025 04:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 01. Places with lower populations generally get ignored and don't have good access to vote. There was literally a report this year of a voting centre closing SEVEN HOURS EARLY in a remote community, they had like 2 hours to vote. This is not the first time this has happened and it will happen again
03.05.2025 04:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I kinda see what you're saying here, but you're missing/ignoring two major points:
03.05.2025 04:35 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So happy to see a lot of love for Annihilation. In my opinion it has some flaws and weird story bits, but I think about that movie more than most. I HATE scary movies and this movie TERRIFIES me, and yet I've seen it like 3 maybe 4 times. The nightmares just feel worth it sometimes (rarely)
28.04.2025 23:03 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Nah, Harry Potter is dead to me. Any endorsement of that franchise is endorsement of JKR and her racist, misogynistic, homophobic views. Do we want to give her more money? Are you really down with that man? π
16.04.2025 04:15 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As a fellow Canadian I absolutely thought this was an April fools joke for the first bit. I rolled my eyes at "32 floors" and said "absolutely no way this exists" only to find out it does. I will now listen to the rest of this episode in bewilderment

Megan Park with "My Old Ass", Celine Song with "Past Lives", Justine Triet with "Anatomy of a Fall", some of my favorites have been directed by women! Canadian Nicole Dorsey did some awesome work on "Balestra" and everyone involved in Love Lies Bleeding take a bow πͺπͺ
One of the many reasons I swapped to StoryGraph was because they have community-tagged content warnings. After being blindsided too many times I needed a solution.
Obviously I wish authors would do it themselves, but to give yourself some peace of mind maybe look into StoryGraph? Stay safe π«

12.02.2025 01:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Watching the news makes me sick because I know if I messed up and made national news I'd be a "DEI hire". And nothing I can say can convince them otherwise.
Racism, misogyny, and homophobia has a new name that's socially acceptable. They'll wield this weapon as long as they can get away with it.
And I'm a white woman. I can pass as straight. I have so much privilege where I am, I can't begin to imagine how racialized folks are feeling in this moment. The layers of discrimination just pile on and people just decide there's no way you were hired on your merits, you're a badge for the wall.
31.01.2025 02:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0To my knowledge, my company has zero DEI initiatives.
To my knowledge, I'm the first woman they've ever hired full time to work on the code. I am now one of 2 women programmers in the company. It's not a big company, but in the time I've worked there we've had 16 devs and 2 were women.
I've been called a "diversity hire" before.
"It's so easy for you, women in tech have all the opportunities."
In roundabout language I was told by a coworker that I was hired instead of better candidates because I'm a woman. This coworker had zero input in the hiring process. He just assumed.
