No beef with David Corenswet embodying a return to the conscience and ethical values of the pre-Didio Clark/Kal-El. More quirky and vulnerable than the invincible George Reeves of my childhood. (The one Joe Straczynski loved so much as outlined in his compelling 𝘉𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯 autobiography).

Not that happy, either, about Gunn deciding to show the Kryptonian supremacist Jor El developed in DiDio Action Comics (Mr. Oz), although that version was developed by Dan Jurgens, who has a long, long solid history with Superman.

Also, I favor renditions of Guy Gardner that show more complexity to his emotional state than Gunn managed to insert in his 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯. The whole thing with him running the bar, interacting with the other GLs with and without the ring and having respectful relationships with girlfriends like Ice.

Mark Waid and Grant Morrison really get what Lex is all about (as Michael Rosenbaum's writers did to some extent in 𝘚𝑚𝘢𝑙𝘭𝑣𝘪𝑙𝘭𝑒). I'm also a fan of Clancy Brown's Luthor in the DCAU.

In re: the new Superman movie.
James Gunn's Lex is too ruthless for my taste. I really enjoyed Mark Waid's 𝘓𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘋𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘓𝘦𝘹 𝘓𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘳, which recognized nuances and ambiguities in his character, kind of a follow-up take to Morrison's A𝘭𝘭 S𝘵𝘢𝘳 S𝘶𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯.
