did a lot of practice sketches tonight

just some thoughts i guess idk im not good at putting the words together but it always struck me a little weird

feels very 19th century orientalism in the way of hodgepodging aspects from any culture east of greece and making it into exotic, erotic, alluring mystical vulcan culture stuff.

in canon a lot of vulcan’s fashion and aesthetics are inspired by east asian cultures, but then a lot of fanworks depict fashion/culture that look inspired by south asian and middle eastern cultures in an extravagant and exotic manner….

i feel like there is something to be said in the way that some fanart/hc depictions of vulcan society (especially “pre-surak”) that feels like it falls into some degree of orientalism

what was the purpose of giving bones and spock arguing dynamic to kirk and spock and then just relegating bones to being a plot device

i think about how hard they sidelined bones in the first two aos movies and i get mad.. why would they do that to him……

like galileo 7 yeah some crewmen were out of line for sure but as the commanding officer spock was responsible and meant to lead effectively rather than exacerbate the crews nervousness.. which he failed at and ultimately learned from and used that knowledge to lead better in the future….
