Companies are savvy enough to know this stuff though, and they have been for years and years. I've been in meetings where we scrutinized inflated numbers, because we had to justify spending money (or not) based on them.

I had to take calc 3 times (and eventually dropped engineering in favor of writing because of a... very low gpa generally), but that 3rd time with a different professor it finally clicked.
