I’m no historian, but our whole nation is founded on political violence. And has continued to be politically violent ever since.

as someone who lives nextdoor to both supportive housing and public housing, i need people to understand that the best locations for both are going to be the central neighborhoods in a metropolitan area, where there is easy and reliable access to services and jobs.

Not only is this a truly screwed up way to govern in general (error rate?) but including charges that got dropped is batshit.
Context: All of us who got arrested for peacefully marching past curfew with BLM in 2020 were charged w/ misdemeanors dropped by the City of LA w/in a week. That would count.

How many times have you been left feeling powerless after some company emails you to say that your data may have been stolen in a data breach or is now available on the dark web? The only option for you then is to just be vigilant. No authority. No consequences

But the real culprit here is the way we handed all of our data over to the marketplace and have treated successively more dire data breaches as an inevitable consequence of living in the information age. Now we are supposed to care that our data has been stolen and consolidated for sale?

Is suffices to say that after 15 years of both democrat and Republican administrations treating treating data as instrumental instead of rights and responsibilities, we were defenseless.

Everyone who was a child in the 80s is validated.

The 'status quo' of R1s becoming increasingly reliant on federal grants & the indirects/F&A funds that come with them came about in a policy landscape of reduced state budgets for public universities (which also coincided with greater college attendance among BIPOC...)

I think there's a much bigger conversation to be had about the business model of R1 universities.

If you're at a public uni, your Department's state funding may be contingent on meeting PhD admissions quotas that 'justify' the continued existence of its grad programs.
