Theory 5:

Ladder magic was never lost. It requires a combination of Guardian and Malerissi magic.

Ladders have been made in the recent past. At Maleris Castle. At Scraller's Feif. From Ambrai to Lilen's greenhouse.

Mikel's hinted link to ladders through the saint may be harken to hybrid heritage.

Add Jored, and you have a Malerissi trained in Guardian magic.

Add Colin's subtly referenced empathy that the twins seem to have inherited, and they may have inherited the magic of the bequest said to "give Captal's unusual abilities."

Theory 4:

If Desse's plan was create a hybrid bloodline and reunite the two magics and governance, Sarra and Collan may have managed where he failed.

If Collan contains the core of the bequest and Cailet the remainder, Taigan and Mikel have Guardian and political legacy.

Desse tells Cailet she would never believe where her magical strength comes from after she widens the ladder traveling from Ambrai.

He may be referencing the above.

Thus, the title: The Captal's Tower, harkening back to the Bekke/Escover bloodline.

That's what Desse's plan was about: Breeding mageborn Ambrais of both magics to re-unite mage, malerissi, and governance.

Glenin was never meant to use her magic―always to be First Daughter of Ambrai and never a mage. That's why Auvry defected.

Correct or not, I've come up with enough theories to fill in the mysteries and finish The Captal's Tower myself at this point! 🤣
