The other frustration about these conversations is that they often overlook that we're still living through a pandemic. Open offices might be a minor gamble for relatively healthy people (who may not stay so if they repeatedly get covid), but they're an existential risk for others.

The idea that in person time is magic for building trust is mystifying to me, a neurodivergent child of the internet. A coworker on a zoom screen or text in slack is just as much a full human being to me as someone I've met in person. However, that's clearly not the case for some people's brains.

It's not paternalism to think that help should be distributed by people on the ground who understand the situation and who can try their best to get it to those who need it most, rather than piecemeal to the people best at getting engagement online. Because that's almost never who needs it the most.
