Salons served as a space for intellectual exchange and the dissemination of ideas. They were particularly significant for women, providing a platform for education and intellectual participation in a time when women's roles in society were often limited. This Solidarity Salon is a space for the LGBTQ+ community and allies to come together, network, share ideas and express themselves. This expression can be through speeches, spoken word, poetry, song, dance. We will be reaching out to different organisations to join us and to share their expertis resources, and support. This event is in direct response to the recent UK Supreme court ruling and the ongoing attacks on LGBTQ+ rights and their access to sports and healthcare across the globe. What anti-fash groups or just general community groups do we know of in Shawlands? I want to do more - particularly on a habitual, daily level - but am never fully sure how.

No one's coming to save us. The Americans have just woke up to that. Will you?

When are you going to even begin to try to stand up for yourselves against how shit things are? When will talk openly about that noisy neighbour, the state of your schools or where your taxes go - even if it's just on here?

So when are you all going to start talking about how shit things are with an aim to address them? I've been doing it since we started getting shit on a daily basis in Hamilton until we were inevitably forced out - arguably way before then too.

I make this post in my own small way to hope to futilely change what I see as inevitable; a pattern that echoes our zeitgeist where the richest of our society get richer at the cost of absolutely everything else with no chance to change. Ever.

And nothing is coming to save us from that. Nothing is likely to change that.

Yes, I'm calling it now; Reform are going to break the swingometer at the next general election. The spite from a quiet, unheard UK public will rip the arrow off the scales. That passive-aggressive reckoning will absolutely take place - what other solution is there right now for voters here?

Until people get pissed that is. Reallypissed. And if we're not at that point now, we will be from all of the aping we do of our bigger cousin across the pond and their VERY hard right stances. The UK public are going to protest vote whoever will give them something to vote against next time around

Then I saw the train coming down the track for the UK. Labour are already unpopular and failing to provide solutions required, people will have long memories for the last Tory reign (thankfully) and in a two party system, that's it for choices.

Maybe they will, maybe they won't; I can't really act on that beyond giving my opinion to those who can and hope that they sort their own shit out.

So, I got to thinking and I quickly realised that it simply doesn't. No one is coming to save America from this. Only the Americans can save themselves from open destruction of their rules that govern their country - their constitution.

British politics time. Yes, seriously.
