I would love to know who is responsible for the whole "harassing people is good actually because I enjoy harassing them and I shouldn't have to think about it" thing, this seems to be a common idea among people who are mentally 13.

Me after seeing that this appears to be from reddit: ah! makes sense

It has been a long time since I read a more incompetently hacked together take about the video game industry. The author shows repeatedly that he understands neither the difficulties involved in making a game engine profitable, nor the greatest failures of Unity's new measures. Why print this?

I feel like that is mostly about people wanting to fantasize about seeing their favs on the same team not actually liking management

Interesting! You are way further than me so question: do you think that Starfield's world or locations are compelling on their own, or do you find that loop to be the main thing pushing you forward?

I think even something like the warp gate things from X3 would go a long way. Just something to make it feel like you're doing something meaningful when you jump. Just disappearing and reappearing makes it harder for me to get lost in that world the way I want to

"Sure is a nice board new ya got there, mister! Be a shame if you, eh, had to install Linux on there, huh? See, lucky for you, my boy Hardware ID and I are certified Linux exterminators, ain't that right Harry?"

"That's right boss!"

"But the fee's per board. We all gotta make a living, ya'know."

TLDR: anybody who says they've solved this problem is a charlatan, it lies at the intersection of many unsolved problems in computer graphics and may never be satisfactorily solved. Just pay one pf the numerous extremely talented artists out there to actually make some good work for you, please.

3. This problem is somewhat related to computer vision, and if you want examples of how doing computer vision is very hard without a depth sensor of some sort, just check out Tesla's woes. 2D sketches will never have any way to gauge depth, which makes this even harder.

2. We really do not have satisfactory ways of converting 2D to 3D yet. We are sort of kind of getting there with photographs, you can look up "siggraph NERFs" for examples, but they still have serious unsolved problems and do not generate stuff that is production ready at all.

1. Rendering anything stylized in 3D is hard. Games you see like Breath of the Wild or Civ 6 that have very nice stylized graphics in 3D did not get that way through any simple process. Figuring out good ways to render 3D stylized art takes a team of artists and engineers years.

In case people want to hear from someone who works in this general area: do not believe anybody who says they have solved this problem. There are so very many dimensions to why this is almost impossible right now. This thread will contain a few of those reasons, simplified a bit.

Yep and just so people know, the Vice quote they have up is not from the Waypoint or Motherboard folks you likely know. Both those places were systematically dismantled and the people who made them what they were are no longer at Vice (and have not received severance).

Catniss gets all quiet and sad after every time she goes to the vet I always feel so terrible :((

And then I wake at 3 AM to her biting my feet as if nothing has happened and I no longer feel terrible

Heh. If you think this is bad, let me introduce you to tortured phrases. arxiv.org/abs/2107.06751

There used to be (and may still be) entire dedicated journals full of B.S papers that use phrases like "underground creepy crawly province" (meaning ant colony) and nobody noticed for like ten years.

Jobs are weird. Being an academic felt more like what I thought being an engineer would be than being an engineer ever has. And being a game developer just felt like slowly having my being consumed by a sludge monster or something. Jobs that sound fun are never actually fun.

I worked at studios that intentionally encouraged this. Marketing bad apples see it and go "so we can get people to buy the game without knowing what it is yet?" and don't think about how unsustainable that is. Those jobs were some of the most deeply uncomfortable I have ever been with my work.

Suburbs put more work into tolerating and accommodating bigots than like every other group.

01.09.2023 21:26 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Yeah and importantly the suburbs did that by tolerating their racism. "If we stop them from saying nazi things they'll just think we have no answer" was the argument for letting nazis keep acting like nazis at every level of my schooling. But, shockingly, if unpunished, they keep being nazis.

Ben Franklin had a child out of wedlock. who then had a child out of wedlock on the same day thirty tears later. who then had a child out of wedlock while on a trip with Ben in France. This great-grandson died young, but was replaced by a great-granddaughter whose mother was the grandson's aunt.
