One presumes there's a wider, global intended audience here too, though. I suppose being so clear cut makes it harder (in theory) for one to 'accidentally'/'conveniently' forget the importance of judicial independence in the midst of politics or other activities...

This mirrors what the Lady Chief Justice said in her two recent appearances. Consistent messaging but I agree, striking too.

I’ve been in or around politics for over a half-century now.

I’ve watched as corporations and the super-rich flooded D.C. with campaign cash and ransacked our system.

It seems like the federal government wanted to commandeer the judge into doing their law enforcement work, which they cannot do as a constitutional matter. Refusing to assist the federal government is not the same as actively impeding law enforcement. This is highly suspect behavior from the feds.

The last day on which a majority of the Supreme Court’s justices had been appointed by Democratic presidents was May 14, 1969.

One of the things we do in the legal academy is support our claims with facts.

Really excited to have this new article out: "Six Myths of Judicial Independence"
