If it’s 22°F and someone walks outside saying, “it’s 85°F,” then you correct them. This is just factual information. If they insist that they’re correct and try to convince everyone else, you oppose them until they shut the fuck up. Allowing it to continue results in a lower level of public trust.

Everyone with a platform over the last 50 years should have been using it to directly challenge these people, but failed to such an extent that the bullshit rarely received so much as a quick aside.

Like, I know these people know they’re full of shit, but it breaks my brain that everyone around them just lets them be full of shit. And it pisses me off because, at its core, this is what’s wrong with US politics. Both parties and the media have enabled these jackasses and their lies.

Apologies, the Marxist/communist bullshit has pissed me off since high school — on a purely factual basis — and it’s now one of those things that makes me a tad apoplectic. I’m so tired of these people just saying words while everyone just shrugs and says, “okay.”

What is discomfort in this sense? What is a challenge? The only time I’ve really used those words is when the thing I’m reading/watching is torture (just as one example). It seems really weird to tell someone that they SHOULD watch bones ripping through skin, so I know this isn’t what’s meant.

I keep finding new emotion words to question. I feel my conceptions of “uncomfortable”, “challenge”, and “hate” are in some way misaligned with how other people understand them.

The first two mostly come from people talking about books and other media/arts.

Something tells me they don’t mean bullying bigots and fascists…

The way things are going, I won’t be surprised if someone at bsky tries to justify this by suggesting the post included “expressions of desire to harm”, they just weren’t Erin’s OWN expressions.

It’s a good concept, but yeah, it’s definitely not as accessible as the team makes it out to be. Wish I could give more insight on whether there’s a good solution to this, but that’s as much as I understand right now.

That data can then be served to any frontend (AppView) making use of AT. Frontends pull from intermediaries (relays), which gather data from the various servers. This allows a developer complete control over what is seen in an AppView, but no control over the data itself.

Technically yes, it is their fault that this problem exists, but I can’t say how well the alternatives might serve the same functions without actually looking into the details. From my vague understanding, a separate instance (blacksky) must maintain it’s own servers where all user date is housed.

I’m a dev, but haven’t looked into this too much. It’s a result of the way AT protocol is built and I’m not entirely sure what the benefits are compared to ActivityPub (Mastodon’s back end protocol).

Giving people ways to navigate life with such conditions is good. They’ve been extremely beneficial for me in the past because of this.

Agree, except partially on self-checkouts. People always include that one, but if you take away the capitalism problems, I still want them. They shouldn’t be the only option, but there are mental health conditions for which socializing is a barrier.

The resource issue is the largest problem, from my understanding. Technical skills are obviously important, but the infrastructure to run it is prohibitively expensive for the average person.

The bluesky app/site is a front end and they’ve banned his account from being seen here. His account and data still exist on blacksky, but blacksky doesn’t have its own front end yet.
