40 years ago, there was no such thing as mandatory detention and even immigrants who committed serious crimes were given a chance to prove they had reformed and shouldn’t be deported. We’re coming up to a world where if an immigrant looks at a cop the wrong way they’ll be deported on the spot.

Sucks that the numbers are low because this book is imo pretty essential reasoning, at least for folks like me who’ve clung to the belief that radical Christian fundamentalism and nationalism is a niche cult, rather than tens of millions of Americans. Highly recommend.
