I reviewed a paper last year that included citations that (1) were supposedly published in the reviewing journal; (2) had titles that were suspiciously well-matched with the author's abstract; and (3) completely and utterly made up.

Many students hesitate to come to office hours because they don't know what to say. I've started explicitly asking all students to attend at least once and providing sentence startersβit's made a big difference in increasing participation.
