Why I’m Doubling Down on Deliberative Pedagogy Why I’m Doubling Down on Deliberative Pedagogy By J. Cherie Strachan, University of Akron Political scientists increasingly turn to civic engagement pedagogy to bolster their students’ democratic capacity. Choices are myriad, as civic engagement pedagogy has expanded beyond its original focus on service learning to encompass a wide array of high impact practices and experiential learning. The most relevant of these in the current political environment is deliberative pedagogy, as it has the greatest potential to scaffold essential civic skills, build trust, bolster civic identity, and broaden political engagement.

How should political scientists respond to  an era of divisive politics and rising authoritarianism? Cultivate students’ democratic capacity by doubling down on deliberative pedagogy.

Niche thing from my dissertation: a big downside to subscription or privatized models of bike programs (aside from price point) is the lack of flexibility for resident needs. Ex: Seoul (which operates bikes as a public good) was able to design smaller bikes for youth, women, and elderly folks

The single dad in me was able to effectively budget and purchase all the daughter’s, niece’s and nephew’s Xmas gifts. They are all here. Looking good. Now I must learn to properly wrap.

the point of the ballroom obvs has nothing to do with aesthetics. it's to create an architectural structure to honor the patronage networks that currently dominate US politics. previous WH venues hosted maybe a couple of hundred people; this hosts nearly 1,000 rich donors.
