There have been many times I’ve stopped in the middle of a book while reading to my son. There’s no excuse for it. Now my son and I, because he’s six now, identify and discuss the reasons why we would abandon the story. It’s a great exercise for higher level thinking at his age.

In my fantasy, magic is divided into three "hearts." Each heart is a source of power and philosophy, shaping how its masters see and speak about the world.

The Ryn commanded one such heart. While the witches evoke a sense of suffering, the Ryn call upon their magic like a spoken vow.
