Lydia Mott & Alice Paul tea cozies were selected for the 2025 Juried Art Show “Many Hands Built Thus Land” & will be on display at Sand Lake Center for the Arts throughout the month of August. Opening reception is Saturday, August 2 from 1-3 PM.

Camille Claudel (1864-1943) - sculptor. I just started this embroidered portrait. I’m using a lovely wine colored vintage silk floss. Not sure if it is colorfast, so we shall see. If it runs, I will be ok with it. I think I might be oddly disappointed if it doesn’t.

Redwork patterns a pretty easy to find. I mainly create portraits, but I have some others like tea pots. Another great source for fun, beginner friendly embroidery designs is Sublime Stitching.

The dress I made all on my own & that was a big learning curve. For the quilt top I took a two day beginner class at my LQS. It was great because it focused on precise measuring, cutting & pressing. We used the yellow brick road pattern by Terry Atkinson. Great instructions.

Frances Ellen Watkins Harper’s speeches are some of the best I have ever read.

Start with something simple like Redwork! It only requires three stitches, stem stitch, lazy daisy & French knot. )My patterns mainly only have stem stitch.) You only need a needle, one skein of floss, scissors, hoop, scrap of cotton/linen a few inches larger than your hoop and a pattern!

I’ve been embroidering since 1998. I just sewed my first piece of clothing & my first quilt top this year.

Finished an embroidered portrait of Grace Hudowalski (1906-2004). She co-founded what woukd become the Adirondack Forty-Sixers and was the first woman to officially summit all 46 of the Adirondack High Peaks, #9 over all. East Dix was renamed Grace Peak in her honor in 2014. #embroidery #history
