Kathy Hochul: The 100 Most Influential Climate Leaders of 2025
Find out why Kathy Hochul is on TIME's 2025 list of the 100 most influential leaders driving business climate action.
Last time we checked, a climate leader doesn't:
- Violate NY's climate law
- Indefinitely delay a pollution cap program
- Drag her feet on public renewables
- Fast-track fossil fuel pipelines
- Green-light energy bill rate hikes

AI is guzzling gas
Big Tech is paying for gas plants and pipelines to directly power data centers, threatening global climate goals.
To fuel AI, Big Tech is now partnering with Big Oil and pipeline companies to supply fossil fuels directly to their data centers.
βThere is just no possible way to achieve net zero" under this type of gas expansion

Immigration Justice Must Be a Climate Fight, Too | Common Dreams
The U.S. Climate Movement must grapple with the connections between climate disruption, migration, and rising authoritarianism; commit to the fight against mass detention and deportation of migrants; ...
Couldn't agree more with this article.
Democrats completely surrendered the narrative around immigration and the climate justice movement can't continue to do the same. If there is one issue where there needs to be more intersectionality right now, this is it.

We all need to become eco-populists. That means championing policies that significantly lower daily costs while lowering emissions. Heat Pumps for All, alongside much more robust tenant rights; free and better public transit; price caps on green energy; make polluters pay for the transition.

There are so many chapters and moments that will shape me forever:
Staying up late to watch the NYβs Climate Law pass, co-designing and winning the campaign for the Climate Action Fund as Campaigns Coordinator and then Campaigns Director, and so many more

So when I found out there was a multi-racial, cross-class coalition organizing exactly at this intersection, I fell in love and worked as hard as I could to find my way to NY Renews.
Now, after 5 years with NY Renews, itβs time to say goodbye.

Some π± personal news π±
When I graduated from college, working at NY Renews was my dream job.
I was obsessed with the intersection of the environmental justice movement and the climate movementβ its history, its struggles, and its potential. But examples of successes were few and far in between.

Sometimes it can be hard to tell who is ready for the next level of leadership development.
This week, it's been really clear.
There will be so much defense work to be done but we can't forget that this is also a moment where we have the opportunity to move people in their leadership in a BIG way.

A very wise woman helped me understand that many of us have been trying to *prevent* the dark times, but we canβt because we have already been in the dark times for quite a while.
Our job now is to *shorten* the dark times and lay the groundwork for what world we want to exist AFTER.

another curmudgeonly thread for the many of you who will be entering organizing spaces.
all other things being equal, when confronted with one team of people recruiting you to Be a Thing and another team recruiting you to Do a Thing, please give serious thought to joining the second.
