Black History Month has begun! This year is the 100th anniversary of "Negro History Week," the first celebration of Black history, which became what we now call Black History Month. I'm proud to represent a center of Black history in Brooklyn & I can't wait to celebrate!

This morning, I sent a letter with Sen. Gonzalez and colleagues urging Gov. Hochul to support our striking nurses and ensure hospitals continue to provide gender-affirming care during the strike.

Last year's arrest of Mahmoud Khalil was more than just a chilling act of political repression, it was an attack on all of our constitutional rights. Now, as the crackdown on pro-Palestinian free speech continues, Mahmoud is being threatened with rearrest. Mahmoud is free—and must remain free.

Nurses show up in our darkest moments. 9/11. The pandemic. Every illness and emergency. Their worth is not negotiable. Fair pay, safe conditions, dignity now. NYC stands with nurses and demands good faith bargaining for justice and care for all.

First day of a new era for tenants! Mayor Mamdani announces that he’s objecting to the auction of 93 Pinnacle properties, and he’s appointing Cea Weaver to direct the Mayor’s Office of Tenant Protection. I don’t know anyone who will fight harder for tenants! Watch out Pinnacle and other slumlords!

Today I stood with Starbucks workers in my district to say: enough is enough. They are fighting for living wages and fair schedules while Starbucks’ new CEO Brian Niccols makes $98 million a year. I’ll be supporting these workers until they get the contract they deserve.
