100%, the scale is skewed dramatically. An 8/10 game vs 8/10 movie are not regarded the same in their respective spaces

I think that adds to the tribalism around review scores. A third of games on metacritic for 2025 scored 8+/10!

I kind of get why people feel anything below an 8/10 is “bad”, when there are 150+ games a year that score higher

Might as well change the scale to out of 3 stars if it starts at 7/10 😂

I think gamers in general are pickier because things take more time and money. People are more willing to watch a 7/10 movie vs a 7/10 game.

And the psychology of 3/5 = 6/10 is definitely not equal for a lot of people which is so interesting

Videogames have way more reliance on reviews due to the cost of games, and the time commitment compared to movies.

The median/average score of movies also is much lower than videogames. Metacritic for 2025, there were 70 movies that were scored an 80+ compared to 166!!!videogames that scored an 80+

Hades II Review: The Roguelike That Even Won Me Over A spoiler-free Hades II review from someone who usually avoids roguelikes, covering combat, builds, characters, and why the game still won me over.

Repetition sucks. Roguelikes involve a lot of repetition. Hence, roguelikes suck.

Fable also has a really high floor, I don't see that game dropping below 80 (unless it's a buggy mess) but also has the potential to review much higher. Very well could be a GOTY nominee as well.

I think one of the "boom/bust" games like a Crimson Desert/Phantom Blade Zero or an unannounced game will probably take 007s spot but I went with 007 as it kind of has the best "tiebreakers" if its reviewed the same critically as something like Nioh 3 (if that makes sense) ---

If I had to predict a MC score for 007 it would probably be like an 85?

Mina is interesting, I would give more of a chance to something like Order of the Sinking Star or Mouse PI (if its actually that good). Mina just has less broad appeal for a GOTY nomination unless it REALLY blows people away -

I think the only game change to this list for me would be swapping Tides of Tomorrow for Fable.

Fable has a pretty high floor (low 80s) barring it being a buggy mess for some reason.

Tides of Tomorrow is a super cool idea with a neat artstyle but seems very boom/bust if it executes its potential

There a good amount of games that if I thought they were actually releasing this year, I would have over those two. Wouldn’t surprise me if one of them does like a Light No Fire/Clockwork Revolution/Final Fantasy 7 Part 3 etc

Im not super high on it, I think it will be good. Wouldnt surprise me if something unnanounced or an indie game takes its place by years end. Or something like a crimson desert/phantom blade zero really wows. Same goes for RE: Requiem
