Tonight, on the longest and darkest night of the year, families from Afghan, Azeri, Iranian, Kurdish, Tajik and Uzbek communities across British Columbia will gather to celebrate Yalda. For thousands of years, Yalda has marked the renewal of the sun and the triumph of light over darkness.

Thursday night, I joined an ancient Hanukkah tradition - the menorah lighting. The message of light, hope, and resilience is age old, and particularly poignant in light of the recent tragedy in Australia.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to Wednesday’s holiday open house, and our consistency office staff for working so hard to put it together.
