Halloween’s almost upon us. And here I’d hoped to go through a whole host of horror movies. All I’ve managed this month, sadly, is 28 Years Later (which was very good) and Sleepy Hollow. Onto pumpkin carving tomorrow! And then … the monsters come out.

It's funny. You tell friends that you've written short stories and they're all, Yeah, whatever. But you tell them you've written a novel and their eyes pop. Really, they say. Wow. Novels are my first choice too, but let's rally around the poor, misunderstood short story.

I may have said this before, but from my perspective, we are living in the era of Peak Star Trek. Considering the quality of S3 of Star Trek Picard, and pick your season of Star Trek SNW, I think this is self-evident.

One of the notable things about Star Trek is that you can tell stories in about any genre. Four-and-a-Half Vulcans was. The. Funniest. Star Trek. Ever. A wonderful episode that explored character while giving us more laughs than a hold full of tribbles.
