Road sign for 'Skirmish Paintball'

How delightfully quaint some of these old Devon village names are, their etymologies lost in the mists of time.

Why is the β€œFIFA Peace Prize” being reported as a serious thing?
Why is it being reported on at all?

There is a very serious point to be made here on a mere football organisation publicly pushing such politicised interpretations of global diplomatic deals and talks.

I’m not sure they were badly filmed. They were just cut together far too quickly so you couldn’t take in or appreciate what was happening

One can only hope they get their comeuppance eventually.

Motability today, PIP tomorrow, SEND funding, Access to Work...
Disabled people would have more chance of thriving (and in some tragic cases, just surviving) if we didn’t have to fight for things so hard and so bloody often.
It feels like the walls are closing in.

Sorry, no, Motability was not about 'helping the most vulnerable' - it was about providing people who need modified vehicles modified vehicles!

God forbid people who pay for a car through the Motability scheme are actually allowed to drive a nice one.

Saw one of those posh artificial Christmas trees for sale yesterday that has the lights built in.
The box boasted of β€˜8 different light settings’ including β€˜Classic Static’.

Or what we historically have just called β€˜On’.

Sunday, November 13th
Today, helped no doubt by the hard, bright freshness of a cool, sunny November morning, I have a feeling of completeness. The world makes sense this Sunday morning. Even the weather seems to be resting, peaceful and mel-lowed after the angry squalls of the last two days. There's a smell of beef and Yorkshire pudding and from where I write I can see the chimney letting out wisps of smoke from the fire in the sitting room. Yesterday I read through the novel so far and was greatly heartened. I saw much that worked and I also saw clearly what didn't work. I can see the way ahead and I can't wait to get going again tomorrow. I just feel very happy and very content at this moment. Nothing is expected of me today except to be here at home. I am perfectly well aware that around the borders of my life are problems, difficulties, painful decisions, even human tragedies demanding my involvement. I know I cannot live in a continual vacuum of happiness - but a day like today restores energies, tops up batteries, rebuilds whatever faith one has. Today there is nothing more I want than what I have.

So, happy 48th anniversary of That Lovely Diary Entry From Michael Palin

If YouTubers (and politicians) are going to insist on this maddening trend of holding their lapel mics instead of clipping them on, then at least go the full Terry Wogan and clip them onto a long stick.

Keep being drawn back to listening to β€˜Pressure Machine’ by The Killers.

A 34-year-old as a politician: My god he's like a baby. It's like they just elected an infant to be their mayor.

A 34-year-old as an athlete: You have to admire the bravery of him attempting that dunk, knowing full well the grim reaper is right behind him.

Me and @wattsgoingon.bsky.social are at Southampton vs Sheffield Wednesday next Saturday.
I think at least one of us should take a tracksuit and a tactics board.

No takers for my Reverse Mrs Doubtfire screenplay in which an elderly Scottish woman pretends to be fast-talking improvisational stand-up Robin Williams.

Apropos of absolutely nothing... I was looking at Chicago Bears NFL team trying to relocate from their really cool downtown stadium to some suburb. And it's just such a perfect example of the weird size and sprawl of US cities... it's the equivalent of Liverpool building a new stadium in Manchester!

I know the chase for Oasis tickets was a bunfight, but I suspect it was nothing compared to the rush last night for places on Pinewood Railway’s Santa Special.
