Okay, let's try this. One like, one good tax reform idea. Popular or not, but one I think will improve our country and strengthen our democracy.

Spoke last night with my Lyft driver about the incomprehensibility of this wealth. He made references to millionaires, Jay-Z, the lottery. I simply repeated: we cannot comprehend billionaires' finances.

I wish everyone financial security and more than that, true wealth. These people are hoarders.

Senator, the President and Speaker have said ending the filibuster would allow Ds to add DC and PR as states. Do you also fear more Americans having voting representation in Congress?

Senator, doesn't the filibuster further reduce the value of the legislature in a period of surging executive power?

Sen. Moran, if "[t]he filibuster provides senators, even when in the minority, the ability to stop bad policies," what bad policies are the Democrats stopping right now? What parts of the Trump agenda would Rs in the Senate not like to vote on?

The Founders were so concerned about bribery that the Constitution forbids it three separate times. Two emoluments clauses ban officialsβ€”unambiguously including the presidentβ€”from accepting things of value, plus bribery is the only named impeachable offense besides treason.

Unprecedentedly corrupt.

indeed, for every academic abuser and enabler: i promise there’s an amazing grad student out there who is doing work that’s as good or better.

we’ve let the myth of the lone genius guy carry on too long. it’s caused so much harm, in so many ways.

Firm Tied to Kristi Noem Secretly Got Money From $220 Million DHS Ad Contracts The company is run by the husband of Noem’s chief DHS spokesperson and has personal and business ties to Noem and her aides. DHS invoked the β€œemergency” at the border to skirt competitive bidding rule...

$220 million for a fascist ad campaign is bad enough. But it's all to line the pockets of Noem's friends and their families. The details in here are nuts.

Jim Ryan letter

Jim Ryan wrote a letter to UVA detailing his "resignation" and I'm gonna get some fresh tea before I read it because I feel pretty certain I'm gonna be filled with righteous anger by the end

I'll do a thread but here's the full letter provided by the chronicle

Today is a good day to remember, and to say, that the #MeToo movement was right, and was righteous, and has been vindicated over and over again. There was no overreach. There was no excess. There was no they-went-too-far.

So much work remains to be done.

Not for the cops I mean. But for the taxpayers.

This likely would not have happened if established law had been reviewed and applied prior to the execution of the warrants,” the statement reads.

As someone who spent ten years in grad school (and did defend + graduate) I’m always so weirded out by people who think being smart about one thing makes them smart about everything when what being highly educated did to me was saddle me with the crushing certainty that I’m not smart about anything

The Senate Democrats just sacrificied one of the few opportunities they have had to use leverage to effect positive change. That in no way exonerates Trump. But it does indicate new congressional Democratic leadership is needed.

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

I don't know what the Senate is going to do. But if they do in fact fold in exchange for nothing, they will be living up to past performance. To expect the Senate to carry out the will of the American people is to misunderstand why it was created in the first place.

I asked Georgetown law prof David Super wtf is going on with this latest demand for states to claw back benefits already sent out.
He says the law doesn't allow for this, and if the USDA is mad that states already sent out SNAP money, too badβ€”they were following USDA's own guidance. Full comments:

Death by Lightning rules.

It makes Roscoe Conkling out to be a real scumbag, but did you know he also helped establish corporate personhood based on a lie he peddled to SCOTUS in 1882 leveraging his unrefutable authority as the 14A’s sole surviving framer?

Interesting details on failed GOP push for a gerrymander special session in Kansas. State House Republicans were 6 votes shy of supermajority needed to call session, with 10 Republicans overall β€” including several committee chairs β€” refusing to back a session. They've now lost their gavels.
