Serious editing question: why do so many people “despise dissolves?”

I’ve encountered a significant number of producers that just hate them. I always want to ask them, “what did dissolves do to hurt you?”

They are part of the grammar of the moving image. Do you also write without using commas?

I sweat by the Logitech MX Ergo trackball. So much gentler on the wrist. It does take some time getting used to using your thumb though. I’ll use a Wacom or Huion tablet now and then. And a heavy combo of StreamDeck and macros (AutoHotKey on PC or KB Maestro on Mac).

FreeFileSync is my current fave. The really cool part is that you can save off “batch” file versions of your sync job and then run it directly, with no need to interact with the app. Cross-platform is a big bonus.

The night before starting a new job feels exactly like the night before the first day of school or the night before your birthday. So excited. I hope I can sleep! #newjob

On Monday, I start as Video Editor at WETA’s Reading Universe website and YouTube channel. I am extremely excited and looking forward to the work I will be doing, wholeheartedly. Getting a new job is very exciting! #newjob

This. Something I noticed this year was that a large number of the posts I saw on 4-1 were just falsehoods made to appear legit. They were doctored up as legit looking press releases or they were plausible but false. Not nearly as funny as they could have been.

Back when my son was into Percy Jackson, he followed it with several Artemis Fowl books by Eoin Colfer. Also, don’t forget Rick Riordan has other stories from alternate pantheons - The Magnus Chase takes from Norse Myths. They are also engaging.

Chaotic Definitely. Depending on the system I’m using, it’s either Neutral or Evil - mostly Evil though.

The trek up to the Ravine will be a little treat though, with the chocolate bars we found in that supply chest.

Heading out of the Fishing Village, my small alliance of 4 head to the Ravine. Jim and Cassie have been here before (or so they claim). Against my gut, we are following their advice. Here’s hoping the challenge at the Ravine will be survivable. I hope Vipak’s eye patch doesn’t hold them back.

Sadly, we ran out of time IRL, but we had a lot of fun getting only as far as we did. 11/10 - will play again!

Had a group of 6 players. After rolling up competitors, they landed at the Fishing Village. They all failed sneaking out of town with Quincy & Abthorpe clocked them leaving. They then won the challenge at the Ravine & headed to the Radio Tower where they met Pania and convinced them to spill.

At the table we had veteran players alongside total new-to-Ttrpg players. Everyone had an awesome time! It was easy to pick up and they all had a blast bringing our story to life. I think this one is going to be a hit! Congrats!

Backed Deathmatch Island from @olddog.games and @evilhat.bsky.social yesterday. Today, I speed read the Preview PDF, binged actual plays. Tonight I *ran* a mini-session. I cannot heap enough praise on this game! Not only is it beautiful to look at, the game play is engaging and fun!!
