Health Costs Will Soar for Many in Mississippi Without Action About 331,000 Mississippians who rely on the Affordable Care Act could see their health insurance premiums jump by 37% on average unless Congress acts to extend COVID-19-era tax credits.

Mike Chaney, Mississippi's Republican Insurance Commissioner, warns that as many as 200,000 people here could lose health insurance if Congress unless Congress extends the expanded ACA tax credits.

"The wealthy people don’t care; they can afford it,” he says.

also. uh yes we still get the fucking boosters, you fucking morons.

instead of fucking the rest of us over with your medieval peasant approach to public health, let's compromise: you can go step on a rusty rake and NOT get a tetanus shot, how's that?

Scene 1: actual coherent lines which seem to fit with each other
Scene 2: coherent lines that make no sense in verbal or physical context
Scenes 3+4: coherent words thrown together incoherently
Scene 5: not even coherent words, just generic human-like mouth sounds

Like the first "scene", while obviously not remotely funny, at least looks like it *could* be a real scene from a real TV show, albeit a terrible one. The consistent decline into just utter verbal and physical incoherence after that is just incredible to behold.

Anti-colonial leaders were routinely Western-educated men who could use those cultural reference points to seem familiar and "just like us" to their colonialist counterparts. Watch "Viceroy's House" and see how both Nehru and Jinnah use their Cambridge backgrounds as an "in" with Mountbatten.

See, for instance, suffragette leaders being disproportionately upper-class women, Black Civil Rights in the US being dominated by church ministers, gay rights cases often focusing on middle-aged well-off normie gay men in long term relationships, etc

I understand that many trans folks might feel unrepresented by the Glamour thing, but I think it's worth noting that the more "respectable" and "mainstreamable" of a marginalised community getting attention and sympathy first is pretty often how civil rights struggles work.

Once again: higher ed is one of our most successful exports. We export more higher ed to China than soybeans. And yet Trump and the mini-Trumps are deliberately destroying the quality of our product

Heritage president backs Tucker Carlson after interview with Holocaust-denier Nick Fuentes Kevin Roberts denounced the β€œvenomous coalition” that has criticized the former Fox News host.

Two years ago, Nick Fuentes was so toxic that, after I reported on a secret meet he had with a top Texas GOP donor, the party was engulfed in scandal and voted to explicitly ban Holocaust deniers/Neo Nazis.

Today, Heritage Foundation effectively said that "no enemies to our right" includes Fuentes.

There's enough immunity from the combination of vaccination and infection that ERs aren't being overwhelmed the way they were in 2020 and that people aren't dying at the same rate when infected. There's not enough to keep people from getting reinfected, and people do sometimes still die or ...

Man we are so fucked if another pandemic happens in the near future. There will be absolutely zero political will to take any national measures to save lives.

As if:
1) Stay home when the ERs are literally overloaded.
2) Go out masked once the ERs aren't overloaded and everyone has good masks but no vaccine yet.
3) Eventually get very selective about masking once there's widespread immunity

is a totally incomprehensible position that no one could hold.

I am _really_ tired of people who take the fact that lots of people changed their behavior after they and their vulnerable family and friends were vaccinated as a sign that those same people all decided they were wrong during the global pandemic.

The largest war ship in the world has been moved to the Caribbean, along with other ships, bombers, amphibious vehicles and more.

That’s a lot of firepower to stop small vessels carrying drugs.

It looks a lot more like preparation for war.

Congress needs to get involved before it’s too late.

Let's be clear: Trump has the funding to keep SNAP running. He's choosing not to.

There's even a Republican-led bill to fund SNAP with broad Democratic support. Republican leaders won't let us vote on it.

Deliberately choosing to let families starve is as vindictive as it gets.

But what does it mean to "drop them"? If abolishing the death penalty is unpopular, should blue states reinstate it? Should the next Democratic administration leave Trump's no-one-but-white-South-Africans refugee policy in place? (Because anything else will be an increase, and thus unpopular.)

Political party policy positions are simply not chess pieces that experts in public opinion can shuffle around to maximize vote totals. Parties take positions because party actors care about those policies, and also (less relevant with death penalty) because voters want solutions to big problems.
