Since February, MPD & DPW enforcement operations (funded by DDOT Highway Safety Office) has resulted in:

We're up to 45 illegal weed shops that have been shut down. Another 44 have gotten cease & desist orders and 118 received warning letters.

DC recovers nearly $900K after impounding cars that owed thousands in tickets Drivers owe the District more than $1 billion in unpaid traffic and parking fines, but D.C. has has been cracking down on what they call the “high-dollar scofflaws.”

⛔️ Widespread road closures across Downtown go into effect early Sunday morning for the Inauguration.

🚧 Emergency No Parking restrictions are already in place in much of this area, and will remain in place through January 22.

🗑️ Trash & Recycling Update! DPW will resume trash, recycling, and food waste collections on a one-day slide schedule beginning tomorrow morning.

Some delays may occur due to ice and snow in alleys, but crews are working hard to ensure collections are completed as quickly as possible.

Thanks to DPW & DDOT snow plow teams for helping clear our roads!

❓Where are the impounded cars from? Of the 411: 185 Virginia; 102 DC; 77 Maryland; & 47 various other states.
❓Why not tow more cars? We have 3 impound lots & each near capacity; DPW working on ways to speed up moving impounded cars off the lots.

❓Why so many cars still at our impound lots? Because obtaining the car title so we can auction or scrap the car can take quite some time - especially for Virginia-tagged cars.
❓How much do we get for auctioning or scrapping cars? Not much: $25k for scrap & $24k for auction.

Since April launch of scofflaws enforcement pilot, DPW has:
🚜 Towed 411 cars w/$2.9M in fines &
🥾 Booted 3,323 cars w/$8.7M in fines.

🧮 Of the 411 impounded:
• 132 released to owner after paying $329k in fines
• 70 sent to scrap
• 5 sent to auction
• 227 still on lot
