It develops slowly to give Beverly's character a chance to develop and allow for a natural extension of their relationship (this is true for Beverly and anyone else. She takes time to get to know). It's about learning to trust and love, but also learning to understand you deserve those things.

Shannon and Beverly have a very dynamic relationship that shifts slowly over WIP 2. Beverly starts as Shannon's boss, then we see it's friendship, followed by a deeper kind of friendship that becomes found family which is necessary for both of them.

WIP 3:
Beverly would hang up without another word
Ceilidh would attempt to find out who they are then write a report about them
Liv ville begynne å snakke norsk slik at de ikke kunne forstå hva hun sa, and then they'd hang up. If they were Norwegian, she'd make a friend.
Estell would swap recipes

WIP 2:
Shannon would be skeptical without a doubt, but would listen politely, say nothing, and then say "no thank you" and hang up.

Jacqueline would answer the phone already scowling, and then would scare the crap out of anyone who called her without good reason. They'd never call her number again.

WIP 1:
Izzy has patience for a lot of things, but this is not one of them. She'd hang up.

Julie, if she had time, would string them along as long as she could with the most ridiculous conversation she could imagine.

It wasn't entirely planned that they would carry over, but that's just what happened.

And yes, I definitely know these stories, but they are not mentioned in the book, primarily because they don't really further the plot much.

Since 2 of my 3 WIP are about musicians who basically put their emotions/things they cannot say into music...

I love when I get to know characters like friends, though it's always sad when the story ends & I miss the friendship. But those kinds of stories are the ones I want to re-read.

Shannon & Jackie will both have a few stories they haven't told each other yet/us, and that will never get revealed (as far as I know, anyway). But the readers will have a good understanding of who they are & what motivates them.
Nurse Hendricks, however, will only get fleshed out in WIP 3

Julie & Izzy from WIP 1 will be known and understood. There isn't much mystery left about them. They change, but it's not a huge change.
But Kathy has some mystery around her still, which more or less gets resolved in WIP 2

Taken literally: Both Shannon and Beverly are nurses in WIP 2.

But Shannon points out that Jacqueline's music is like music for the soul. Jackie doesn't buy it, but Shannon persists in explaining how a good song can change a bad mood.

The antagonists in WIP 1 are mostly written to be foils, and some have redeeming qualities while others are only there to be hated. Though my editor liked how I wrote Nicole.

No one who has read WIP 2 likes Rebecca or Greg. Good. They are horrible. It's a literary litmus test.

I would honestly be truly impressed if anyone actually liked my antagonists. Mostly because the people who would read my books, would definitely not be the people to cheer on homophobia.

It's less about buying things and more about the moment of mundane domesticity that they shared while watching the HCS. It's sort of hard to explain, but it's a comedic beat in book 1

By the end, both Shannon and Jackie find their ideal home with each other. A place where Shannon can be herself and Jackie can feel a sense of belonging and acceptance.

Julie and Izzy find home in music and the home shopping channel

Jackie's home is the tour bus or hotel rooms. She has a house in LA, but she doesn't consider it home.

Shannon's home is in places where she can feel like herself - often found in books and other such escapes.

It's cliché to say that by the end of the book, home is where their LI are, so start of the book it is:

Julie: LA, full of colour & culture & far away from Ontario, her family and her past/Izzy
Izzy: Toronto, far away from her past & reminders of Julie
