New Oklahoma running backs coach Deland McCullough has coached backs who have combined for 17 seasons of 1,000-plus yards from scrimmage.

He hopes to continue that with the Sooners, who have gone three seasons without a 1K rusher. He expects OU's RBs to be "detailed, dependable and disciplined."

I get it, but I also understand the give-and-take with his offense/defense. He has the worst defensive rating on the team, and defense has more often than not been the bigger issue for Oklahoma this season (29th in off. efficiency, 154th in def. efficiency, per KenPom).

He needs *some* role, tho.

Kuol Atak might have the most taxing role for Oklahoma in SEC play -- in and out of the rotation (more often the latter) -- but expected to provide instant offense when called upon.
