Let's fight misinformation, help good journalists to make a decent living, and stick a big ol' finger in Jeff Bezos' eye.

Im pretty sure that there is no qualified immunity in criminal cases at all. So, a bunch of people are just completely lying and a bunch of other people are completely misinformed.

If @mayorofchicago.bsky.social was serious about good politics, he’d eminent domain trump tower.

Other people dunking on the DOJ lawyer here, but this is an example of the norms-based control that courts/judges offer. The judge can’t force a lawyer or person to do anything, and the DOJ gets that. Undermining the norm has consequences, but the DOJ understands that power usually beats norms.

So, instead of legitimizing the fascists arguments by engaging with them, instead organize with your neighbors and community. Help provide for people. Make sure the most vulnerable people are safe and free. A society where the most vulnerable are free is a society where everyone is free.

24.09.2025 01:20 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

But if your goal is to defeat fascists and fascism, the lesson is that you must fight fascism not with fascism, not by meeting them on their own terms, but by confronting them with power. Fred Hampton’s legacy lives on because he was uncompromising, principled, and a champion of freedom.

3) in building so much power, the BPP put a huge target on their backs. They were the feds’ number one enemy, and the feds broke every law to stop them, eventually gaining support from the local prosecutors and cops to kill him, also illegally.

24.09.2025 01:15 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The BPP built power by building alternative system to provide for people outside the existing systems. They gave people food, they gave people medical care, they gave people education, without engaging with the government for those services

24.09.2025 01:13 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Consider Kwame Ture, who said (paraphrasing) β€œif a white man wants me dead, that’s his problem. If he has the power to make me dead, that’s my problem”

24.09.2025 01:12 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

2) when Fred Hampton organized the rainbow coalition, he built power. He united Black people, Brown people, white people, all people, in the idea that there is no out-group, and that a free society depends on everyone being free, except fascists who should be fought on all terms at all times

24.09.2025 01:11 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

So, the notion of targeting melania’s immigration status is a particularly bad idea because it (a) gives the fascists everything they want, i.e. targeting the out-group, immigrants, and (b) achieves nothing because the fascists will never yield to their in-group, which she is a part of.

24.09.2025 01:07 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The ideology of fascism is to use power to advance the desires of an infallible in-group, at the expense of a disposable out-group. This is why the fascists are not engaged in hypocrisy when they defend trump’s pedophilia (they’re not against pedophilia, they’re universally for the in-group)

24.09.2025 01:05 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Ok I’m going to give a good faith effort to respond to these comments. 1) the only way to change the world, and especially when you’re standing up to fascists, is by building power. This is because the whole point of fascism is that it’s not based on argument or debate or consensus.

24.09.2025 01:03 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Ok I didn’t think I’d have to specify this, but Fred Hampton was not talking about solidarity with fascists. If you don’t know who someone is, you can just do a simple google search before showing your ass on the internet

23.09.2025 14:42 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Buddy, I’m begging you to read something about Fred Hampton. He wasn’t finding solidarity with the fascists. *sigh*

23.09.2025 12:54 β€” πŸ‘ 7    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Mehdi I’m a big fan of yours but this isn’t it. To paraphrase Fred Hampton, you don’t fight fire with fire, you fight fire with water. You don’t fight racism with racism, you fight racism with solidarity.

So, I’m sorry to say, at least according to the Supreme Court, this country was created as a white supremacist country. It wasn’t until the Civil War and the Reconstruction Amendments that the scope of Constitutional rights changed.

06.09.2025 12:17 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

This is straight out of the 1857 SCOTUS case Dred Scott v. Sandford. The Supreme Court reasoned that the writers of the Constitution never intended Black or Indigenous people to have any federal rights. The case was overruled by *checks notes* the Fourteenth Amendment.

I couldn’t fucking believe that the trib ran a cover story about pro-Trump Black people. Like they were writing directly to him after he asked for help finding support in the city.

So frustrating to see people praising this judge. This is exactly what cops and prosecutors do, except they don’t say β€œmy bad.” When this happens, you can sue for monetary compensation, essentially nothing more, and the actual prosecutors and cops (functionally) have zero liability or consequence

I have erred, the Monroe v. Pape SCOTUS decision came down in 1961.
