As the potential for federal law enforcement action against the unhoused increases, more people are being directed to SPARC.
Now would be a great time to listen to the residents demands and ensure the facility is run effectively, humanely and preserves the safety and dignity of our neighbors.

Like Broadview, SPARC is supposed to be a processing and entry point but the sheer volume of people there and the lack of process have led to unsafe and inhuman conditions...except instead of a detention system this is supposed to be a pathway to housing and "they" aren't running it..."we" are.

Something that occurred to me last night as I was thinking about this...I realized it's VERY similar to what I've heard from people who have passed through the City's Shelter Placement and Resource Center (SPARC).
It's become a de facto shelter even though that's not it's purpose.

A column chart showing the average time by days spent at the Broadview processing center spiking in June.
There’s no medical staff or services at Broadview. No food preparation. No beds. That’s all by design because the facility was created for holds less than 12 hours.

Unpaid labor at a municipal planning agency is not okay--it devalues the expertise required for these positions, and drives inequity.
Chicago's Department of Planning and Development can and should do better!

I am so angry that it even crossed my mind to be angry about the possibility of the DHS Sec showing up at a Cubs game and also they're playing in Milwaukee tomorrow so now I don't need to be angry about that just angry about always thinking about how stuff could be stupider.

Have a talk with the older folks in your life who you love and might be responsible for someday. Eldercare can be the most valuable and the most awful thing you do with your time and it hits a lot of people by surprise in their 40s. Have the talk and keep talking.

The Trump admin says this project should be paused because the CTA followed *federal rules* requiring them to meet goals to give contracts to qualified Black-, Latino- & female-owned firms
The federal government now say those rules - imposed by the feds - are discriminatory

Brooke Rollins, who has long openly advocated for using federal power for ideological ends was easily confirmed and no surprise she's into some BS. She openly supported mass deportations of farmworkers and pushed "efficiency" logic for SNAP that is gutting other critical safety net programs.

It's possible. This is a tactic for grants that go directly to municipalities, which is why I think the community service and transpo $ might be easier to impound than say housing $. That's my guess based on watching a version of this with Head Start before the courts blocked the citizenship stuff.
