Also, the way to not "die on that hill" is to be united. These folks who want to jettison trans folks, immigrants, Black folks, etc. are so short sighted they think it'd be a victory to die a couple steps later, when choosing solidarity is actually choosing to not die at all

getting princess treatment (being married off at 12 and shipped off to a country where I don’t speak the language to live with an inbred gay prince so what’s left of the Holy Roman Empire doesn’t fall completely to pieces)

I regret to report that blocking the internet from all my devices is still the most effective way to actually get work done. What a terrible system.

I had a coworker ask if I'd used ChatGPT to write a piece of professional correspondence because it was so good, which was a bit insulting.

What made up for it was her expression when I responded with "I will cut out my tongue before I let a robot speak for me."

I’m telling you: ridicule works. These guys are supposed to intimidate the citizenry and it’s very hard to do that when a guy in a frog suit is just staring you down and daring you to do something that makes it look like you’re afraid of a cartoon

Soli-fucking-darity. Montana had a democratic governor up until 2020 and a democratic senator until 2024 and people act like the whole state is hardcore republican forever now.

Deskilling is real.

This is the world generative AI peddlers long for, one where people are incompetent without their service.

Don't outsource your brain to this shit. You'll regret it.

There is a simple and basic truth here which is that this is not how legitimate law enforcement agencies in a democratic nation state behave.

It’s simple and basic, so much so that it bears repeating again and again lest it slip away through the open Overton window.

Most morally offensive part of hegseth's speech was the idea that manliness and courage consists of bullying and abusing people weaker than you rather than standing up for justice against people more powerful than you. Real andrew tate shit

My personal timeline is full of autistic people trying to explain that there isn't more autism than before, it's just that we're better at detecting it, and there's nothing more autistic than hoping explaining something at length will help matters when nobody is really listening.

I've read a couple of history books and I can tell you for sure that rounding up your generals, having a drunk yell at them and call them fat, and then stopping paying them that same day is absolutely how you institute durable personalist rule

the "who will the public blame for the shutdown?" handwringing is asinine. the vast majority of voters have no idea how government shutdowns work, and by the time midterms roll around they won't remember anything that didn't impact them directly

OK, I’m usually pretty good with alt text, but this one may defeat me. Imagine the biggest, wrinkliest black dog.

Now imagine a large, violently green ball.

Now imagine that Peanut the mastiff has put a ball exactly the size of his enormous maw into his enormous maw, completely filling it like a cork, or a big green baby binky.

That is this.

A friend just sent me this picture of his mastiff, Peanut.

Let it wash over you.

I am so jealous of writers who can just sit down and write a thing. When I try that it ends up taking me four to six business years to produce a passable rough draft. I have to figure out the whole thing first, and even then there's a good chance I'll write the first 30% and realize I got it wrong.
